I recalled reading a newspaper article when I was at Manchester the other day about how two young lovers (then in 1945) met, fall in love and got married because of a box of margarine. Bette Kennedy, who then 16 worked in a CWS food factory in Manchester during the World War II where she cheekily slipped her name and address into a margarine container. Herbie Reynolds, then 19, was a sailor aboard a minesweeper in the English Channel when the ship’s cook found Bette’s note. You can read the full story here.
