Sago tree, which belongs to the palm family plays an integral part in the lives of the Bidayuh community. Its leaves are woven to form roof for the longhouse. In Sarawak,  especially in the rural churches sago leaves are used for Palm Sunday ritual. The stalks are used to build raft and many other things. Its stem is pounded to produce sago flour and the young shoots are cooked as vegetables.

This is “dewu buan” or “buan” leaves. Tried google-ing for its scientific name but can’t find it. I’m sure there’s a scientific name already given by MARDI or the forestry department for this leaves.

It’s been some unlucky experience for me lately every time I decided to dine in a so called hype restaurant. Still remember my bad experience at The Sanctuary? A couple of weeks ago, I was dining at Planet Hollywood and the same bad karma was over me. I ordered beef steak and Caroline decided to go for lamb chop. While taking the order, the waiter made it clear they need 20 mins to prepare the lamb chop and I said okay that we’ll wait.
