This is “dewu buan” or “buan” leaves. Tried google-ing for its scientific name but can’t find it. I’m sure there’s a scientific name already given by MARDI or the forestry department for this leaves.

What’s so special about buan leaves? It is part of traditional Bidayuh lifestyle. The Bidayuh used dewu buan to wrap steam rice as their lunch pack when they go farming or hunting. In a traditional Bidayuh wedding, guests were seated in rows outside the tanju (verandah) and served with rice already packed in dewu buan.

I think Mardi or FAMA should promote dewu buan for environmental friendly commercial usage such as nasi lemak wrapper etc.
