Virgin Hen bleeds in pain at Simple Tattoo

Gotcha! My headline this time caught your attention. No not chicken hen, but Henry … lost virginity of his left arm to Simple Lim, the owner and artist of Simple Tattoo. It’s been quite a while that I’ve not blogged about tattoo. A few weeks ago, I followed Henry to get a mermaid inked on his arm, a tribute to his late father who had something similar.

Simple Tattoo is located on the 3rd Floor at The Summit USJ. The owner, Simple Lim graduated from Malaysian Institute of Arts (MIA) where he majored in fine arts. After graduating, he left his artistic passion behind to help out on family business. Later, he became interested in tattoo which took him apprenticeship all the way to Thailand. Only two years ago, he started Simple Tattoo and his business has been thriving since.

Back to dirty ol’ Hen, he was nervous on his first experience. The mermaid is a free hand piece of artwork custom designed for him. Here’s Hen, posing for the last time with his virgin arm.

Hairs around the tattooed area is shaved. Antiseptic is applied to kill off germs.

The design then copied on a tracing paper and pasted on the body.

As Simple Lim was sterilizing his tools, Mrs. Lim took down Hen’s particulars for record purposes. She also explained to Hen about tattoo aftercare.

While waiting, I took a look around the studio. Simple has been tattooing a lot of customers for the past two years. The pictures on the wall were his evidence.

He was even featured on October 2006 issue of Eve & Adam magazine.

The tattoo room is quite small but clean. The four walls are covered by his previous traced papers, simple proof of the number of clients that have been tattooed by the man.

The outlining began. Simple started from bottom and made his way up, saving the best part (ouch! that’s painful) for last.

Friends were there to lend virgin Hen the moral support he needed.

The mermaid’s scales was the most tedious part I would guess.

The completed outline is a fine piece of art as you can see from the scales and the hair of the mermaid.

Comes the shading part.

dsc_1741.jpg

I thought the outline was more painful as compared to shading but Hen said otherwise.

dsc_1745.jpg

I observed that Simple Lim did a good job because there was little blood when he did the outline and the shading.

The completed shading job. I didn’t get to stay till the touch up bits. I was too tired and the session ended at 3am.

I’ll post the final piece when I have time to see Hen later. If you’re interested to fix an appointment with Simple Lim, he can be contacted at 012 213 0770 or email simple@myjaring.net.
