Tune Card Review
Update: [28/5] I’ve been asked this silly question almost everyday, where and how to apply for this card. I wonder how clearer I should be in my posting and to prevent future enquiries, pls go to TuneMoney.com to apply.
Now, those folks at TuneMoney.com owes me this free advertising.
TuneMoney.com is the latest no-frills products and services offering insurance package as well as prepaid Visa card. I was interested in the prepaid Visa card (debit card) because that means I could carry less cash especially for my upcoming trip to Thailand this coming March and May.

Let me start the review with the application process. Online application took me about 15 minutes and was absolutely hassle free. You can choose from over 600+ post offices of your convenience. However, customer notification is poor! At the end of the registration, you will be told that your card will be ready within 7 days but do not expect a letter to arrive at your doorstep to notify it is ready for collection. In my case, I wasn’t aware that there’ll be no letter hence I’ve been checking my mailbox for the past two weeks until I got fed up and sent them an email. The helpdesk replied to me saying that my card was ready for collection at the post office that I have chosen during the registration. The next day, I went to the post office and may I remind you that Pos Malaysia will charge RM3 as service fee. Ok lah, three Ringgit only..
The card design and colour looks very attractive and stylish but the plastic quality looks rather cheap compared to my existing credit cards. I read through the attached fee table and my conclusion is, TuneMoney earns profit from the transaction fees. The reason why I applied for this prepaid card is that when I travel overseas, I do not have to carry so much cash but bank-in some amount to this card. Whenever I need cash, I can make international withdrawal from any ATM with the Visa Plus logo at a stunning low rate of RM10 or 1.5% of the withdrawal amount, whichever is higher. This is cost competitive if compared to 5% cash advance fee from a credit card.
However, the major setback of using this prepaid Visa card is that, the cardholder is exposed to risk of card fraud. Please read the attached Tune Card: Cardholder Agreement Terms & Conditions. TuneMoney will not be held responsible for any disputed merchant or internet transactions. I would not recommend using this type of card in third world countries where cases of card fraud is very high. Be sure to check the credibility of the merchant before you swipe your prepaid Visa card.
In summary, this prepaid Visa card is ideal for online internet transactions and having a plastic cash convenience while travelling for the following groups of consumers:
- Cardholder from the low income group
- Cardholder who are ineligible to apply credit card due to several reasons such as being blacklisted by Bank Negara etc
- Students
- Frequent budget travellers/backpackers who worries about carrying a lot of cash

Looney Tunes: Sham, yes you can. You can use it for online shopping and book hotels or flights with this card. Basically, it works the same as a credit card. Just that it’s a prepaid. (Make sure you have sufficient balance in the card before purchasing).
