[Sponsored] Ceiling fans dillema and solution

18 April 2008 652 views 4 Comments

When we moved to our new house last year, the Mrs wanted to buy ceiling fan that comes with light at the center and remote controller. I agreed with her because the wiring on the bedroom ceiling were designed for ceiling fan thus the lights have to go on the wall. The plan was to have dual lighting i.e. cool white on the fan and warm white on the wall.

Off we went in search of the perfect fans for all our bedrooms. After spending considerable amount of time window shopping and comparing, we bought three units of Cyclone’s CYC-RLC BN/2006 fan which are Malaysian product by Cyclone Electric Sdn Bhd. We bought the fan from a light shop nearby our home and it came with free installation but that’s when the nightmare started.

First of all, the fan was wobbling terribly, like an old grandma dancing with a broken hip. \:D/ The technician from the light shop gave up after 6 hours trying to fix and advised me that he will call Cyclone heldesk to send their service technician. Two weeks we waited, the service technician finally came to our house. He fixed the problem within 20 minutes and told me that the shop’s technician had installed the fan blades wrongly. Three days after the fans were fixed, they started to act strangely. The lights will suddenly come on and off. When the fan is switched off, it will suddenly turned on by itself. I thought the house was haunted. :-SS After a few times, all the lights went dead. I called the helpdesk again and asked if the technician could come over again. The next day, the technician came and change the alternator for all three fans. A week later, two of the fans start to have problems again. The lights went totally dead. I called the helpdesk for the third time and they came to the rescue. Until today, it has been the sixth times the fan failed in less than a year. I had given up calling the helpdesk because the last time I called, which was a couple of weeks ago, they promised that a technician will visit our home but until today, there are no signs of the techs nor there were phone calls from the helpdesk.

I told my wife that I will never buy any products from this company because they are rubbish! I’m thinking to buy new ceiling fans and have been Googling the net for modern ceiling fans. It came to my surprise to find out there were so many names or terms for ceiling fans like casablanca fans, craftmade fans, ellington fans, fanimation, hunter ceiling fans, minka aire fans and monte carlo fans. So many to choose from, I’m finding it hard to make a decision.

The same thing happened with my Uncle. He got the one with 4 lamps on it. When the lights went off – he needs to take down the whole fan for repair for a week. In the end he ended up with aircond :)
