The boss-ing dilemma
I’ve been sick this past couple of weeks. It started last week Tuesday. Went to new office on Wednesday, the in-house doctor sent me home for a day. Came in half-day on Thursday for my meeting with the facilities management company (FMC) and was working from home for the rest of that day. Friday was a PH, in lieu of the King’s birthday so I was at home recuperating and hybernating. Saturday was feeling better but it turned out a false sign as I was down again on Sunday afternoon. Vommitted a few times that night plus diarrheoea and bad headache. The Mrs was suppose to be on nights but had to call in for EL to look after me.

Woke up on Monday morning, the day I was suppose to be in CBJ, feeling like I’ve been knocked on the head. Texted old boss telling I’m off sick. Felt really really guilty because I seem to be away from CBJ more and more now. Went to see doctor again and he signed me off with another sick leave. Suppose to see new boss’ boss who flew in from UK for dinner at PJ Hilton that night but had to send apologies. Been knocked out most of the time during that two days because of meds. Wednesday morning feeling nothing better but still go to work. Was driving in the state of semi-conciousness. Still feeling kinda’ high as the effect of the meds. Left ear still losing hearing due to the blocked nasal passage on the left side. Was supposed to go for surgery at SJMC to repair the damaged nasal but chickened out after hearing painful stories of other people that has been through nasal surgery.

Yesterday, had the routine chat with new boss and told him what happened as described above. Not in any of his words he felt compassionate nor concern unlike old boss. Explained to him that I had to send apologies to his boss for missing the dinner appointment. Told him that it was not quite my good start and I regretted it. New boss was neither reassuring nor apologetic but he even said “It’s ok for this time. Just make sure you don’t do it too often”. Bloody hell! As if I purposely want to fall sick or pretend to be sick to miss the appointment.
To new boss … You have just started off with a bad impression! I won’t be working with you long. Either one of us will move on that’s for sure. You are far below old boss’ league.
