Picnic at Ulu Yam Waterfall
My two weeks of hectic and late night working was rewarded last Saturday with a nice picnic at Sungai Tua of Selangor State Park near Ulu Yam, about an hour and a half drive from Puchong.

There’s no huge or high falls but rather cold streams of clear water that sends chill to the bone. The park is quite well maintained with well preserved forest.

Some parts of the water is about knee deep while other parts are up to waist and chest deep. However, there’s no pool area where you could swim hence the only thing you could do is soak yourself in the cold water or sit in between rocks for a nice massage from the current.

We did not walk further into the park. We took a spot about 500 meters from the main entrance as we had quite a few of items to carry such as food, BBQ set and etc. I took my ritual task as in any of our BBQ events i.e. to start the fire and doing the barbecue.

We had the mandatory lamb specially marinated by one of our friends in his secret family recipes. What always amazed me is that first time joiners in our events such as this would instantly fall in love with the lamb. There’s also chicken and sausages to add the items in our menu for the day.

We also had BBQ fish, this time we managed to find ikan terubok, kasam ikan sultan (fermented fish) and cockles too.

While the other guys were busy chatting and boozing Chivas and JD, the ladies took time off from the kitchen, enjoying the food and doing girls talk.

After two rounds of barbecue and everybody had their lunch, I handed over the barbecuing task to someone else and went into the water.

The chill of the water and the sound of the current were very therapeutic. Indeed an excellent treat to de-stress from the hectic weekdays. Here’s imitating a sixthseal’s meditating stance.

The rest of the guys joined in thereafter. Do not believe your eyes with the dude who so called caught the fish with his bare hands. That’s ikan terubok if you know what i mean (read: sea-water fish bought from the fish market on the way to the waterfall).

The Mrs joined me later on just to find out that the water was too cold that she was shivering.

The rest of the ladies came and conquered my meditating spot. I had to give way and went back on-shore finishing barbecuing the rest of the meat.

Some of the guys jumped into the pool later on after they had their boozing session. With heads spinning off caused by the JD and Chivas, these guys decided to play a game of water-wrestling.

We concluded the day with cleaning activity, making sure we did not leave any litter at the park. We left the park at around 4.30pm feeling tired but certainly we had great fun with each others’ companies, catching up with old friends and meeting new ones. Looking forward for the next trip.
Kemaman Hai Peng coffee anyone?

That’s very wonderful. I haven’t been to a picnic for…hmmm..years! Even worse, haven’t been to any where further than my office. Oh, but on Sunday, I finally can go to the Rainforest World Music Festival with my bf for the first time. (Previously always follow the family)

Hi, terserempak masuk ke sini apabila mencari jalan pergi ke Taman Negeri Selangor kat Google. Very nice info for all the way go there at the Bidayuh site.
For your extra information, setahu saya, this Saturday 2008-08-09, ada satu activity untuk melihat Hujan Meteor–hujan tahi bintang, kat P2 car park bermula 9pm anjuran satu kelab astronomi tempatan. Sape-sape yang berminat boleh join sana nanti.
