Sweet, Sour & Spicy Tenggiri with Tomato
Ok ladies & gentlemen, HeAd’s Kitchen is back with another simple cooking; Sweet, sour & spicy Tenggiri with Tomato. You’ll be wondering am I turning gay with all this cooking blogging?
Every great chef in the world is male. That makes me one
Ooops, sorry ladies. Didn’t mean to be sexist but it’s reality. Anyways, you’ll find the answer on September 6th … so don’t forget to check out my scheduled posting till then.

Preparation is very simple (Dish makes for 2).
Step 1:
1. Season about 2-3 slices of ikan tenggiri or mackerel (some refers it as Spanish mackerel) with salt and white pepper. Just a light touch of salt will do because you’ll be also adding salt to the red sauce later on. Leave for 5-10 mins for the seasoning to absorb through the tenggiri before you fry it until golden brown.
Oh btw, I bought 6 large slices of ikan tenggiri today for RM31.25. That’s roughly RM5 per piece. Damn bloody fisherman, don’t know how to catch the fish causing demand outweighs supply, forcing the fish monger to increase the price. Did you notice that I said season about 2-3 slices? 3 slices for 2 persons? Well, one for the wife and two pieces for me … ![]()
Step 2:
To prepare the sauce, you need:
Lemon grass x 3 stalks
5cm ginger x 1, thinly sliced
Chilli sauce x 2 tablespoon (I like it hot, baby!)
Tomato sauce x 1 tablespoon
Sugar x 1/2 tablespoon
Tamarind paste (mix it with hot water, you’ll need approx. 4-6 tablespoon)
Garlic x 2 pieces, finely chopped
Corn flour x 1 tea spoon (Missing. Lazy to go to the groceries just to grab a packet of flour, so I made do with the rest of the ingredients)
2. Mix chilli sauce, tomato sauce, tamarind juice and sugar in a small bowl with hot water. (If you have corn flour, mix it together as well.)
3. Sauté garlic, ginger and lemon grass till light brown
4. Add in the sauce mix
Step 3:
Fresh tomatoes x 2 pieces, sliced into equal sizes
5. Once the sauce is boiling, add the tomatoes. Leave it to boil for 5 minutes or until the tomato turns soft. Salt it to taste.
6. Add the fried tenggiri, leave to boil for another 2-3 minutes.
7. The dish is ready to be served.
Let’s makan everybody!
Verdict: Carol finished her rice so that means the tenggiri is sedap! Why? She never finished her food? Wait for September 6th posting! ![]()
Note to self: Improve food presentation for photo taking before upload to blog ![]()
