Room Review – Radisson Edwardian Mountbatten Hotel, London

Radisson Mountbatten is a 4 star luxury hotel located at the center of Covent Garden, London.

It is approximately 6-10 minutes walk from Covent Garden and Leicester Square tube stations, both serving on the Piccadilly line (approximately 340m apart from each other). The hotel is surrounded by arts & culture establishments as well as shopping. It is a merely 15 minutes walk to Oxford Street, for even more shopping spree.

I checked in at around 6pm on Saturday after a 12 hours flight from KL, plus another 45 minutes tube ride from Heathrow Airport to the Covent Garden tube station. I was greeted by the hotel’s friendly staff at the concierge and the reception desk. The staff were very attentive and accommodating.

The room I’m staying for the next 6 days is a standard double. Although compact, it is still very comfortable. The only problem I have with the room is the space between the TV cabinet cum mini-bar and the bed is so small that I keep knocking the bed when I’m passing through.

For standard double room, it comes away with basic comfort of TV, interactive mini-bar (that automatically charge items taken out from the refrigerator to your room bill), small desk, compact wardrobe, iron and board, trousers press and a safe.

For a huge, fat bloke like me, I consider the shower as small but still acceptable. The shower glass enclosure is too short and too low causing water to overflow and wet the bathroom floor. The bathroom is fitted with large mirrors at every corner that you could even smile at yourself while urinating :))

The hotel should sacrifice for smaller sink to improve space at shower and toilet area. Nevertheless, this is just one room I’m reviewing. The king size room could be more comfortable than this one. The plus side is, it comes with complimentary wireless that apart from my laptop, my iPod could also connect.

On Sunday, breakfast is served at 8am and closed for dinner. However, there are varieties of restaurants within walking distance. From my observation, space is a general issue in this hotel. As an example, the elevator is small, it could fit around 4-5 people at one time. The corridor to the room is also narrow.

However, taking into consideration (i) the friendliness and attentiveness of the staff, (ii) its strategic location and (iii) complimentary unlimited wi-fi usage, (iv) standard double room rate of ~£150/night (breakfast inclusive) Radisson Edwardian Mountbatten Hotel still comes recommended for both business and leisure by headsteadi.com.
