Chalton Street Market

13 September 2008 578 views 3 Comments

Charlton Street Market opens every Fridays from 9am until 4pm. Charlton is an area in the London Borough of Camden. The street market is about 10 mins walk from King’s Cross St. Pancras Station. Click here for location map.

The market offers goods from clothings, carpets and rugs, kitchen ware to daily groceries. Items are sold in bulk and some goods fetched as low as 50p. Just take a look at the picture below. T-shirts are sold at £1 each and socks at 50pence.

The market is very similar to our pasar malam (night market) except that this one is a day market.

The street is a quiet stretch occupied by cafes and small offices, close by to residential areas.

From my observation, it is patronized mostly by local residents of Indian, Arab and African descent.

While waiting for Caroline to check out the market, I took some interesting pictures like this tree close-up for example.

Most of the traders are local English men and a few Indian and Arabs as well. We bought some caramel candies. In fact, that’s all we bought from this market actually. Not interested to get anything else when we can actually find similar goods from our pasar malam back in KL.

Direction to get there:
To get to this market, take the tube to King’s Cross St. Pancras station. Walk towards the south on Euston Road. You will pass by the British Library. Just a short walk from the library, you will find Charlton Street at the corner.

I am amazed at the various numbers of other nationalities there in one of the picture – adding 2 Malaysians, are those people British citizens(those in African & Arab clothing) or foreign tourists like you two?
