Online Road Tax and Insurance Renewal via myeg
Life is getting so easy and convenient each day. Ever since I owned a car, I’ve been paying the agent to help me renew my road tax and insurance. This year the agent lost a customer and in this few years to come, he will probably lose more customers.

When I came back from my long holiday in London, I realised that my car road tax and insurance are nearing expiration. Realising that it could take me at least 2-3 days if I go through the agent, I decided to try the online renewal service provided by myeg.
I was a bit skeptical in the beginning because I’m so used to the personal service by my agent. I was so used as well to see that the geran (car registration card) is printed each time road tax is being renewed. A friend of mine shared his experience of using myeg service and managed to convince me that the online renewal is convenient, fast and most of all safe.
I decided to give it a try on Sunday evening. There were two options to pay i.e. either via credit card or FPX (direct debit). I chose the second option which later on I found on is slower because the money will have to float for a couple of days before it’s being debited. Anyway, the insurance renewal was successful.
Next was renewing the road tax. After filling in the information on the first page, it was suppose to bring me to the payment page but instead the transaction ended there. There was a message on the screen that says a helpdesk personnel would contact me immediately or Monday morning in the case that it’s Sunday or Saturday.
Yesterday very early in the morning, I emailed the helpdesk to check on the status. An hour later, I called the helpdesk and was attended to by a very competent helpdesk agent named Hazril. I explained to Hazril that my road tax has already expired hence the urgency to get it renewed as soon as possible. He listened attentively, explained that my payment has yet to go through because of direct debit float rule and that my road tax application is being on hold. He promised to investigate and helped me to expedite the process. He also promised to call me back as soon as he could get it progressed. During this time, somebody else from the helpdesk responded to my email earlier and returned my call. As I was already attended by Hazril, I asked them to sync with each other. Must I say, if only all the helpdesk agent are as competent as Hazril, customer service profession would be regarded highly. Having experience working in a customer oriented line in my previous job, I really appreciate this bloke’s professionalism. We took about 2 hours to sort out the delay of my money transaction.

Today, my road tax was delivered to my home’s doorstep. There seems to be a communication break down at this point because I specified that the road tax is to be delivered to my office address. I suspect there must be a confusion in their delivery that it was delivered to my home address. Luckily the Mrs is at home today so there’s someone here to acknowledge the receipt. According to the Mrs, the delivery man ask for her IC and scanned her thumb print for security identification. At least if gets lost to the wrong hand, they could trace back the finger print thus hold your breath and be assured it is safe.
My conclusion:
- Service is efficient. Delivery made within 2 days. Their SLA is 5 days.Note: Use credit card instead of direct debit.
- Payment is quicker using credit card. There’s a 2 days float period if payment is made on direct debit.
- Despite the minor error of delivery point, I concluded this service as fast and reliable.
- Although myeg claimed that they provide 24×7 service, the road tax renewal might not be fully successful during the weekend as it relies on JPJ back end system.

Hi luv.feelin
You don’t need the green card/geran to renew online. First you need to renew your insurance online from the same website. Once this is done, then only you can renew your road-tax. Prefer to use credit card or FPX transfer. If you use M2U or CIMB Clicks transfer may take a couple of days as the transaction will be floating before completed.
Anytime when you’re free or you happen to visit your bank, you can always take the green card and update it. How? You may do so from the myEG kiosk. I saw this kiosk available at selected SenQ store. There’s one in SenQ Sunway Puramid. But I didn’t do this step. That’s not compulsory.
