Room Review: Hotel Mulia Senayan, Jakarta

28 October 2008 439 views 6 Comments

Hotel Mulia Senayan is a 5-star luxury business hotel located at South Jakarta, about 45 minutes from the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (on a smooth night traffic). I was told by a local that it was the fastest hotel built ever in Indonesia. It took merely 9 months and were guarded by the armed forces day and night during the construction.

Despite the name Mulia, which I deemed as so uncommercial, my first thought was wiped out as soon as I entered the hotel lobby. With the super impressive interior, I felt like I was entering a palace. I stayed in the 517sqf king’s room during the course of my visit to Jakarta last week.

As I entered the room, I was greeted by the wide hallway.

To the right of the door, I found the roomy wardrobe. However, much to my dissappointment, being a business hotel, the wardrobe were missing ironing board, iron and trouser press. I had to call the housekeeping to deliver an iron and a board to my room. About 10 minutes later, they came with a lousy steam iron and board. So lousy that the iron actually stained my white shirt from the rusty steam. The iron board was dirty and not even stable. It kept folding while I was ironing that i almost give up using it.

To the left of the hallway is the huge bathroom. The toilet comes with retracting jetspray, which was genius. The shower has a lot of space that I can’t complain.

The sink comes with common facilities such as hairdryer, power point for electric shaver, basic toiletries including toothbrush. There’s even a weighing scale at the bottom of the sink.

I never understand why some hotels put their complimentary bottled water in the bathroom. It should be placed in the minibar or somewhere else inside the room but not toilet please. It is just not right.

After the ruccus on my way to KLIA, upon arriving at the hotel, my feet were really sore. I was tempted to soak them in the hot tub for a while to soothe the aches but to my disappointment, the tub hole cover was broken.

The bedroom is very spacious even with a king sized bed, sofa set and desk, there are still a lot of space. Not that I’m planning to roll-over on the floor but having a spacious room like this is indeed a plus for unwinding especially after some stressful moments in the office.

The sofa is the least that I would use during any of my trips but good to have just in case I expect visitors to my room.

The desk is big enough for working. It comes with complimentary unlimited broadband and a universal power socket. The cabinet besides the desk stores the mini-bar, safe box and tv unit.

So, there you go. King room review of one of the largest hotel in South East Asia.

As a conclusion, in terms of infrastructure and design, it is pretty impressive. However, it lacks some personal touch if compared to Mandarin Oriental Manila. Nevertheless, headsteadi.com recommends this hotel for business and leisure alike.
