I’m appalled with the Indonesian road system! An ex-colleague of mine used to tell me that he learned to appreciate Kuala Lumpur after he visited Jakarta. At first, I laughed him off because I thought that he’s just trying to keep me happy since he’s an expat living in KL.

It took me a couple of visits to appreciate his fair comment and to understand the reality. When I came to Jakarta last year, I arrived at almost midnight. The traffic was clear and it took me about 45mins to reach my hotel at Senayan.
This time around, I flew in the first flight on Monday morning. Two hours later, I arrived in Soekarno Hatta International Airport at 10.05 a.m. local time. I boarded a taxi direct to my office and it took me two hours to steer (well the taxi driver did, not me) the traffic jam (macet in Bahasa Indonesia). I looked outside from the taxi window and was quite impress that it’s a three lane motorway. Road condition was quite good. In fact better than some part of roads in Sarawak.
It kept me wondering “So what on earth is causing the massive queue?”, until I saw the reality!
