Nugget #1: Saturday 7th
I went shopping at Ikea last Saturday and dropped by the Ikea Exit Cafe for ice-cream and curry puff (btw, the curry puff taste damn good!).
While waiting for the Mrs to queue for the ice-cream and curry puff, I stood outside the line and overheard this conversation.
Husband: Kitak mok minum apa? (Yes, in Sarawak dialect)
Wife: Ambik ajak soft drink ngan nembiakThe husband joined the queue while the wife stood besides me together with the kids and other family members (another 2 adults + probably their mother). They were looking at the menu …
Menu: Soft drinks (free refill) & ice cream = RM2
The husband made signals to the wife, asking how many sets to buy. After several exchanges of signals, they agreed 4 sets of that menu.
Adult 1: Aik nya free refill ehhh
Adult 2: Aok, ambik rah nun, sik perlu bayar
Mother: Padah ngan (name removed) nun …
Wife: Bang, aik nya free. Sik perlu bayar.
Husband: Camne kitak tauk?
Wife: Nun ehhh … nya madah free refill
I just looked somewhere else and smiled …
Nugget #2: Monday 9th
I was at the site of my secret project, talking to one of my contractors.
Contractor: Abang asal orang maner?
Me: Sarawak …..
Contractor: Ooooo … saya memang asal orang Selangor. Saya ingat tadi abang ni orang Banja. Bunyi ada sikit2 macam tu …
Me:again. Tak lah … bukan
Bloooody h**l. Seventeen years I’ve been living in West Malaysia, the worse I’ve got so far is either I’m from Johore or the Philippines. This was the first time people asked me whether I’m from Indonesia. 
I should cut less trip to Jakarta starting immediately …
regarding your desire to return home to Sarawak.. Guess its normal. Lots of my friends, stay in the peninsular after graduatiing.. but end up, having lower pay when returning to Sarawak.
Its so demoralizing. You want to return home, and you get paid lower. Someone should do something to overcome this.
