Before I proceed, I must apologise to my Muslim readers as this will be a review full of porcine dishes. If you’re not comfortable staring at the porkielicious pictures please do not proceed further. You’ve been warned my friends! ![]()
Last Saturday I joined my friends for dinner at El Cerdo @ Werner’s Place, located at Changkat Bukit Bintang.

It was drizzling when we arrived hence I took the jockey service so we didn’t have to walk. After all the RM10 jockey fee is not much of a difference if I park myself at nearby car park bay.

When we entered the restaurant we were greeted by the hostess and was ushered to our table. Some of our friends had just arrived having small talks while waiting for the rest of us.

PorkieLISA?
Being inside El Cerdo as if we were not in KL but somewhere in Europe. The establishment’s interior were setup like a typical restaurant in Europe. For a while I felt like I was dining overseas ![]()

The service was superb! The proprietor made sure that we are comfortable and attended to. In fact he goes around to every table and personally checked on all the patrons to make sure everyone enjoy themselves and are being served well. His staff kept coming to check on us and was certainly very attentive which made our dining experience a truly perfect evening.

For that night, our mission was to feast on El Cerdo’s signature suckling pig. We ordered a whole piglet for RM219.00.

While waiting for the last couple to arrive, El Cerdo’s proprietor recommended that we should have our soup for starters to keep us warm while not filling us too much so as to leave room for the main dishes. The potato soup was nicely prepared. I really like it.

The second serving was cold ham with rock mellon and salad. The recommended way to eat it is to wrap the ham around the rock melon. This would infuse the sweetness from the rock mellon combined with the saltiness from the ham. Really nice. If you don’t prefer to have it with rock melon, the ham can also be enjoyed with the accompanying bun.

We also had Greek Salad which is a country salad of juicy tomatoes, crisp cucumber, red onion, green pepper, feta cheese and olives.

The next dish that we ordered was pork ribs. I can’t remember which one but I think it was Hickory Smoked Pork Soft Ribs, grilled in spices, fine herbs, chutneys & rum. Something different from the normal pork ribs with sauce that I usually had. I liked this one too.

We also had baked sweet potato wedges. A bit too soft to my liking as my preference of wedges would be crispy and slightly dry but it was still ok.

Our final dish, the main course that we’ve been anxiously waiting for was the porkielicious suckling pig. The pig as we were told, is soaked in white wine prior to roasting to maintain crispiness.

There is something unique that you get to experience when you order a suckling pig. You get to cut the piglet using a plate. The tender age of the piglet plus the pre-soaking in white wine has made the meat so tender that you can actually cut the meat by using the edge of a plate.

After cutting the piglet, the next interesting experience was breaking of the plate. It is believed that breaking of the plate is to get rid of bad luck in your life. Depending on what you wished for, there are different way to hold the plate prior to breaking. For wishing of good luck in a relationship, both hands should be close together. If you’re wishing for abundance in wealth, the hands should be far apart (as depicted in picture below).

After the short entertainment, we then proceed to feast on the piglet.

As the tagline of El Cerdo’s had claimed, nothing was spared. From nose to tail, everything was savaged. The piglet’s ear is the best part. It’s so crunchy and delicious ![]()

Dining at El Cerdo’s was definitely a great experience. Excellent food at a relaxed atmosphere.

headsteadi.com highly recommends El Cerdo’s @ Werner’s Place if you want to pig out yourself. Due to it’s popularity, my advise is that you book a table in advance to avoid disappointment.
