There goes my clean record!

I got my driving license when I was 17 years old.  As far as driving and getting involved in accident is concern, sixteen years later my record is still very clean. However last Friday, thanks to a bloody fool Kancil driver my record has been marred.

As you can see from the incident map, I was exiting the Pending roundabout towards Muara Tabuan from the toll bridge. I gave my signal light and I saw the Kancil was coming from Kuching port. He saw that I was exiting left but he tried to squeeze himself to the right towards Simpang 3.  Bang!!! He hit my car on the left doors.

I immediately stopped and came out with a parang. (No lah that parang part is to juice up the story). The kancil driver also came out furious.

Me: You ok kah? Tidak apa-apa kah?

Kancil: Lu tidak nampak saya signal ka?

Me: Apa you langgar saya?  Saya kasi signal dolok. You maok keluar simpang you patut berenti ooo …

Kancil: Lu tengok saya punya kereta sudah rosak.

Me: Apa you ingat saya punya tidak rosak kah? Saya punya lagi terok.

Kancil: Sekarang siapa maok bayar? Saya punya bumper sudah rosak. Tepi sudah rosak. Kalau enjin rosak macam mana? Ini macam maok ganti ooo.

Me: Saya punya sapa maok ganti? You nampak saya kasi signal bukan? Saya sudah maok keluar dari roundabout. Kalau ikut undang-undang you patut berenti, you tauk ka?

Kancil: Ini macam you mauk bayar saya ooo …

Me: Tunggu polis datang lah. Claim insurance saja.

Kancil: Aiyaa … kalau call polis nanti banyak cerita. Maok claim insurance pun lamak ho. Nanti maok bayar compound RM300 lagi.  Saya maok cepat wo. Ini hari saya demam, maok pegi klinik takut nanti klinik tutup. Settle sini la.

Me: Tidak. You kata saya salah. Saya kata you salah. Apa macam dua2 pun salah? Tidak guna saya bayar you nanti you pun maok bayar saya balik. Suruh polis settle la.

Obviously he was in a hurry. By the way, the time of the incident was around 11.30am-ish. Clinic closed as 11.30? Hmmmm …Don’t tell me all clinics in Kuching closed at 11.30am.

I called the traffic police at Simpang 3 and explained to the officer. He told us to come to the station and lodge a report. Meanwhile his friends in two cars came and started to scold me. I kept my cool and insist on making a police report.

The guilty kancil!

After discussing with his friends he agreed to settle the matter. We fix our own cars. No need to lodge a police report. He knows that if we’re to make a police report, he’s the one that will have to pay the RM300 compound because he was obviously guilty. I, on the other hand prefer to settle the matter on the spot because I don’t want to spend hours in the police station to file a report. After all the damage is not that serious.

We both shook hands and left the scene. Two things I learned from the incident:

  1. When accident happened, always keep cool because the other party will be fiery and will always blame you for causing the accident.
  2. If in any way the other party threatens you or insists for payment, always call the police to clear the air. This is also a good trick to scare the other party off from being aggressive.

So, there goes my clean record of 16 years driving free of accident. Thanks to the bloody fool Kancil driver.

p/s: Mintak2 ini hari nombor naik. Boleh juga pake cover kos repair itu kereta.

  2. Cyril # Sorry to say but Kuching drivers are terrible. They usually ignore the basic law. Signal light kat sitok sik laku paduhal. Worst is when it comes to parking. Never in the designated box. Mesti maok parking senget2.

  3. I hate drivers whom always try to squeeze themselves into the road. Got my own experience with this, and because I didnt want to give way to his rudeness, he opted to overtake me, and then squeeze in.

anyway, i agree that you should always call the police if both are pointing fingers. so far, i had 2 accidents, and all are selled goodly. the only problem is, i pity my 1 year old SAGA which is dented.
