Here’s a new tune of the classic Fields of Anfield Road. Featuring John Power, The Farm’s Peter Hooton and a cast of local Liverpool musicians and ex-Reds (among them John Aldridge and Bruce Grobbelaar) in The Kop Choir, the single (a reworking of Peter St John’s Fields of Athenry) commemorates the 20th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster and are already available for download, via iTunes, since April 6th. Best ever Kop song after YNWA. More details on how to purchase the CD here.
This one’s quite easy. The scouse accent was not that thick so I could figure out the wording quite easily.
Let’s sing along:
Outside the Shankly Gates
I heard a Kopite’s calling
Shankly they have taken you away
But you left a great eleven
Before you went to heaven
Now it´s glory round the Fields of Anfield Road
All round the Fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (And could he play!!!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
About the glory round the Fields of Anfield Road
Outside the Paisley Gates
I heard a Kopite calling
Paisley they have taken you away
But you led the great 11
Back in Rome in 77
And the Redmen they are still playing
The same way
All round the Fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play
And could he play!!!
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
About the glory round the Fields of Anfield Road
Beside the Hillsborough flame
I heard a Kopite mourning
Why so many taken on that day?
Justice has never been done
But their memory will carry on
There’ll be glory round the Fields of Anfield Road
All round the Fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play
And could he play!!!
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
About the glory round the Fields of Anfield Road
All round the Fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play
And could he play!!!
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
About the glory round the Fields of Anfield Road
The glory round the Fields of Anfield Road (fade)
Liverpool!!!! You’ll never walk alone!! Still like that song…
