Famous Hai Peng Kopitiam in Terengganu
Your visit to Terengganu, especially Chukai town in the Kemaman district will not be complete if you don’t drop by at the famous Hai Peng Kopitiam (coffeeshop). It’s like visiting Kuching and not having Kolo Mee or Mee Tomato.

The kopitiam is a hot spot among the locals. I was told that the place is always crowded from the moment it open business for the day until they close in the evening.

The kopitiam is patronised by customers from all walks of life and races. Not surprising as there are neither Star Bucks nor Coffee Beans joints in this fast growing small town of Chukai where people can have a drink and gossip.

The kopitiam is a family owned business that was started by a father and passed on to his daughter.

Seen here the towkay (staring at the camera in white pagoda t-shirt is enjoying his breakfast). He must be wondering why was I taking pictures at every corner of his coffeeshop.

Hai Peng Kopitiam served local foods like nasi dagang, nasi lemak, keropok besides their signature banana toast and special brewed coffee. There’s also localised modern dishes such as Italian Pasta with Asian Touch and Hai Peng Mamak with Spaghetti.

And make sure before you leave Chukai town, you bring home some Hai Peng coffee packs.

Not bad for a small town coffeeshop, Hai Peng is online on the net at www.kopi.com.my. For more pictures of Hai Peng, browse my Flickr.
